Statistics Department Alumni Workshop
2002
Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February
9, 2002
Alumni, Friends of the Department, and
Prospective Students Welcome to Attend!
|
This
year, our keynote speaker will be Dr. Mark Becker. Dr. Becker is Dean
of the School of Public Health and Professor of Biostatistics at the
University of Minnesota. He received his Ph.D. from Penn State in 1985.
Dr. Becker's research on statistical methodology has appeared in leading
journals of biometrics, medical statistics, sociology, and statistics, and he
has co-authored publications in journals of accident analysis and prevention,
dentistry, epidemiology, health services research, medicine, nursing,
nutrition, and occupational health. In addition to his keynote address on
Friday morning, she will speak at the Department colloquium on Thursday
afternoon. You are, of course, welcome to attend the colloquium as
well. The Workshop will provide the
opportunity for graduate alumni to give short talks about their current
research or professional career. In addition, students and faculty will talk
about ongoing research in our Department. To help develop a strong network
between alumni and current students, there will be opportunities for alumni
to meet with interested students. The Department currently has 25 Bachelors,
22 Masters and 24 PhD students. Approximately 25 students are expected to
complete their degrees by August 2002. Space will be available for alumni to
display recruiting information, and to privately interview interested
students on Saturday. It is hoped that alumni will take advantage of this
recruiting opportunity. |
