Splus/R

S-plus and R (GNU S) are two of the most common statistical programming languages available. As R is basically a freeware distribtuion of S, programs written in R are generally portable to S after making some minor adjustments, and vice versa. Members of Penn State's Department of Statistics can install S-plus on their home computers at no cost and R can be downloaded for free from the web. In order to install S-plus at home, you need to see Robin Hill in 424 Thomas Building and R is obtained from the R project's website (www.r-project.org). S-plus versions 3.4, 5.0, and 6.0 are installed on most of the workstations in 330 Thomas Building, and R version 1.4.1 is in there as well. Most, if not all of the Sun machines in the graduate offices have at least one version of S-plus.
