The department is initiating a Genometrics option, which will focus on methods for the analysis of various types of genetic and genomic data.

Students will be required to enroll in two special statistics courses (HES 516 Statistical Genetics, STAT 597D Genometrics), and select one advanced statistical methodology course and two subject-field courses.

Suggested advanced methodology courses include Stat 525 Survival Analysis I, STAT 544 Categorical Data Analysis I, STAT 565 Multivariate Analysis, STAT 540 Statistical Computing, and others.

Suggested subject-field courses include BMB 400 Molecular Biology of the Gene, BIO 428 Population Genetics, BIO 505 Statistical Methods in Evolutionary Genetics, BIO/CSE 597F Bioinformatics I, BIO 597F/CSE 598F/STAT 597F Bioinformatics II, IBIOS 598B Genomics, and others.

In addition to course work, students will acquire their required consulting credits working on special consulting projects that link our faculty and Statistical Consulting Center to faculty, laboratories, and experimental facilities in the life sciences. They will also participate in research activities generated by the new Center for Genome Studies.

Dissertations in this option will likely involve co-supervision by an external faculty member.
