Applying for Graduate Study in the Department of Statistics

GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION FORM

All applicants must complete a graduate school application form.  You can complete an application form any of the following three ways:

  1. Request a paper application.  If you provide your mailing address, an application will be mailed to you.
  1. Complete an electronic application.   International students who have applied for a degree program at Penn State in the last 4 years should not use this method.
  1. Download and complete an application.   You can either:

    Either way, you will need 2 completed copies.



TRANSCRIPT REQUEST FORM

You must submit two official transcripts pertaining to your undergraduate record and, if applicable, your graduate record.  You must submit two official transcripts from each institution you attended.  Notarized copies are not sufficient.  Transcripts not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT VISA APPLICATION

All international applicants must complete and submit an International Student Visa Application.  This form will help us determine if you meet the financial requirements necessary for making a formal application to Penn State University.  Click here if you would like more information about the graduate school, or here for an overview for international students.

ASSISTANTSHIP APPLICATION

To be considered for an assistantship, in addition to completing the university's Assistantship/Fellowship application, you must:

Mail this departmental application form directly to the department.
Note: The department does not provide assistantships or fellowships to MAS students.



SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Once you have completed the Graduate School Application, Transcript Request Form, and the International Student Visa Application, follow the instructions below:

  1. Mail the following:
  1. If you did not file electronically, ONE COPY of the graduate school application.  This application includes the university's Assistantship/Fellowship application.
  1. A non-refundable application fee -- for an electronic application, submit $45; for a paper application, submit $60. Applications without fees cannot be processed.
    • DO NOT SEND CASH.
    • Make payable to The Pennsylvania State University.
    • International money order or a check must be drawn on a U.S. bank.
    • Canceled check serves as your receipt.
    • If you filed electronically and did not pay by credit card, please attach generated Fee Form.

  1. Mail the following:
  1. One copy of the graduate school application, if you did not file electronically.
  1. The departmental application form for assistantships, if relevant.
  1. Two official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended.
  1. Standardized test scores.
  1. Application for Visa Document (International Students Only)
  1. Three letters of recommendation.
  1. Statement of purpose.

Please do not submit information with your application that cannot be used in the admissions decision process, e.g. Individual Education Plans (IEPs), medical records, statements from physicians or psychologists, or legal documents. These documents will be returned to you.

As soon as your application is reviewed, the department and graduate school will notify you of your admission status.


DEADLINE

The deadline to apply for admission is February 01 every year.
