Vernon M. Chinchilli

Vernon M. Chinchilli
Vice-Chair, Department of Health Evaluation Services
Chief, Biostatistics Section, Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, PA
Professor of Biostatistics and Statistics
Ph.D.: University of North Carolina, 1979
Dr. Chinchilli's main areas of research are in applied multivariate analysis, especially with respect to designed and observational studies in the biomedical research setting. He has particular interests in the design of repeated measurement, crossover, and longitudinal experiments and the analysis of continuous response variables from such experiments. He is the principal investigator for the Data Coordinating Center of the Asthma Clinical Research Network, funded by the NIH. He is also co-investigator on a number of NIH-funded biomedical research projects at the Hershey Medical Center.

Dr. Chinchilli held a postdoctoral position at the Food and Drug Administration (1979-81) and he received the Commissioner's Special Citation for biostatistical work he performed in the evaluation of diethlstebestrol for pregnant women. He reached the rank of Professor of Biostatistics at Virginia Commonwealth University (1981-92) prior to his arrival at Hershey. He serves as a consultant to a number of federal health agencies. In 1997, he was appointed Fellow of the American Statistical Association.
