Please share this with your
graduate students and postdocs. In addition, we are always
interested in senior faculty at associate and full professor ranks who
are active, happy and looking for a change.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Junior Tenure Track
Positions
The Department of Statistics at North Carolina State University invites
applications for one or more junior tenure track faculty (Assistant
Professor) positions. Appointments are to begin in August 2008.
The Department is one of the oldest and largest in the country and
provides a dynamic environment for teaching, research and collaborations
across disciplines, with formal programs in genetic statistics,
environmental statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and
biomathematics. It also has strong programs in statistics education,
mathematical statistics, and a wide range of other applications. The
Department houses the Bioinformatics Research Center and is a partner in
the newly formed Center for Quantitative Sciences in Biomedicine. The
Department has been awarded a prestigious NSF VIGRE grant (for the second
time in 2004) that integrates undergraduate through postdoctoral research
and education through various mentoring activities. The Department's
location in the Research Triangle provides rich opportunities for
interactions with industry; other universities, including Duke University
and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and government
agencies. Faculty enjoy collaborations with medical researchers at Duke,
environmental scientists at the EPA research facility, pharmaceutical
researchers at Glaxo-SmithKline, and software developers at SAS
Institute, among many others. The Department also is a founding
cooperator of the National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) and
the NSF funded Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute
(SAMSI). Both NISS and SAMSI provide excellent research opportunities.
Through generous gifts from our alumni, the Department has recently
established three (Cox, Fisher and Hunter) Distinguished Professorship
Endowments. The Department will move into a new Mathematics &
Statistics Building at the end of Fall 2008, offering state-of-the-art
offices and instructional facilities. It is an exciting time to be
in the Research Triangle area and an exciting time to join a department
that is looking to expand significantly on its strengths.
All applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in
Statistics or Biostatistics by the time of employment. Responsibilities
include teaching and research. The department seeks applications from
candidates from ALL areas of statistics.
All applicants should provide a letter of application, curriculum vitae
and recent transcripts. Applicants should also arrange for three letters
of references to be sent directly to the Department. All materials
may be submitted electronically to
stat_search@stat.ncsu.edu
or as hard copy to the address below. Electronic submission of materials
is strongly encouraged. All reference letters will be made
available for review by the departmental voting faculty. Processing of
applications will begin December 3, 2007 and continue until the positions
are filled. Women and members of other underrepresented groups are
especially encouraged to apply. We welcome the opportunity to work
with candidates to identify suitable employment opportunities for spouses
or partners.
