Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) is an umbrella organization that steers and coordinates Ontario´s cancer services and prevention efforts. As the provincial government's chief cancer advisor, Cancer Care Ontario directs over $500-million in public health care funding for cancer prevention, detection and care. The agency also operates screening and prevention programs; collects, monitors and reports information about cancer and cancer system performance; develops evidence-based standards and guidelines for health care providers; and works with regional providers to plan and improve cancer services.

The Ontario Minister of Health and Long-term Care established the Cancer Quality Counsel of Ontario (CQCO) in 2002. The CQCO is a quasi-independent body, the first of its kind in Canada, with a mandate to motivate improvement in the quality of cancer services. The CQCO is composed of 15 provincial, national and international experts in the fields of cancer medicine, research and policy.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Wait Time Information Office is responsible for collection of wait time data from selected Ontario hospitals, analysis of wait times, report development, and providing the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care with information for public reporting of hospital wait times.  The Office has been created to support the work of Ontario´s Wait Time Strategy. A priority for the Strategy is reducing wait times for healthcare services for adult Ontarians in five areas: cancer surgery, selected cardiac procedures, cataract surgery, hip and knee total joint replacements, and MRI and CT scans. Cancer Care Ontario is hosting the Wait Time Information Office. At this time an Analyst is required to work with other members of the Office, to contribute to the overall success of reporting and analysis of wait time information by using data housed in the Wait Times Information System (WTIS) and other health administrative data bases from external data holdings.

 

OVERVIEW:     

 

The analyst will participate in the collection, verification, and preparation of wait time data prior to the official public reporting. He/She will provide support to the data quality improvement program by performing data quality related analysis, impact analysis, generating and extracting random samples for auditing based on predefined methodology. He/She will also respond to ad-hoc data requests as needed.             Identifies issues to the Manager Reporting and Analysis.                                                                        

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The key responsibilities of this position are:

 

Supports the Wait Times Information Office implementation of the WTIO analytic plan.
Supports the data quality framework.
Creates SAS codings for random sample selection and extraction.
Provides statistical and quantitative methods support for Wait Time Information Office
Provides other ad hoc statistical support when needed
Maintains accurate records of methodologies used for analyses
Works collaboratively with other members of the WTIO
Actively participates in WTIO meetings
Stay abreast of ongoing trends and developments and remains current within profession or field
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:

 

The key requirements are:

·         University Degree in informatics, statistics or mathematics, epidemiology, health information or health administration or related discipline.  Graduate degree would be an asset.

·         Strong analytical capability with excellent attention to detail.

·         Experience working with healthcare-related databases, specifically manipulating data, generating random samples, and performing other statistical data analysis.

·         Experience with SAS or other analytical/statistical tools.

·         Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications including Excel, Access DB, and PowerPoint.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills.

·         Strong organizational skills and time management skills.

·         Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills.

·         Ability to think logically and undertake complex problem solving.

·         Enthusiasm and the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
