Sampling Distributions

Synopsis: An activity which involves collecting random samples and determining the shape of the distribution of the sample average and the sample maximum.  Students break up into groups of 4 students, and analyze sampling distributions.

Type of activity: In-class, small-group

Statistical topics: sampling distributions

Time needed: 15 minutes

Materials needed:

Procedure:
  1. Ask students to break up into groups of size 3 or 4.
  2. Give one activity form to each student.
  3. Ask the students to take 4 different random samples of 4 people each and record the data in the table.
  4. Have the students hand in the data sheet to the instructor and then answer the questions on the activity form.
