Intersession 1998 Syllabus
DESCRIPTION
This is a one-semester introduction to probability and statistics, with
emphasis on improving students' abilities to understand statistical information.
Selected topics include methods for data collection and description as
well as using sample information to draw conclusions about a population.
The course is less technical and more conceptual than Statistics 200.

REQUIRED WORK
The required work for the course will consist of 3 midterm exams and a
final exam. Your lowest midterm score won't count.
There will also be 12 unannounced, randomly timed in-class activities,
each worth 5 points. The maximum number of activity points awarded will
be 50 points, so you can miss a few activities and still get all 50 points.

Remember, your lowest midterm score will be dropped.

Each midterm exam = 100 (200 total)

Final exam = 150

Activities = 50 (12 activities; need 10 to get all 50 points)

Tentative grade borderlines in terms of points and percentages follow.
These borderlines may be lowered slightly depending on class performance.
Borderlines will definitely not be raised.
A = 368 (92%) , A - = 360 (90%) , B + = 348 (87%) , B = 328 (82%) ,
B - = 320 ( 80 %) , C + = 308 (77%) , C = 266 (66.7%) , D = 224 ( 56%)
COURSE RULES

No make-up exams will be given for any reason. If you miss one exam, it's
automatically your lowest midterm score so it will be dropped.

Early exams may be given to students with direct conflicts due to another
required University activity (athletics, field trip, Blue Band trip, etc.).
Arrangements must be made in advance.

Students are responsible for all announcements and any supplements given
within any lecture.

Cheating will be punished in accordance with University guidelines.
