Course Prerequisites

At least a working knowledge of multivariate calculus.
Required Text

A First Course in Probability (Fifth Edition) by Sheldon Ross.
Homeworks
-
Generally, problems will be assigned from the text throughout a given week
and their solutions due on the following Wednesday.

Only about 2 problems selected at random will be graded in detail on a
scale of 0-10 points each.

A copy of the solutions to each homework set will be placed in the Mathematics
Library (109 McAllister) and also on the notice board outside 301 Thomas
Building about 1 day after the homework is due.

There will be a 20% penalty for each homework turned in after class on
the day it is due.
-
No homework will be accepted after its solutions has been posted.
Quizzes and Exams

A weekly 10-minute quiz (usually on Monday).

There are 2 in-class midterms and a final scheduled.
-
All tests are closed book, but students may bring a 1-sided legal
size sheet of formulas and a simple handheld scientific calculator.
Final Grades

These are A (100-90), B (89-80), C (79-70), D (69-60) and F (59-0) based
on the following breakdown:
