Required Text
Ross, Sheldon (1996). A First Course in Probability, 5th Edition. Prentice-Hall,Inc.
Course Coverage
Most sections from chapters 1 through 8 will be covered.
Required Work
The required work for the course will consist of weekly homework assignments, 2 in-class quizzes and a final exam.
Course Grades
The final course grades will be based upon 100 points:
Each In-class quiz: 20 Points (40 total )
Final Exam 30 Points
Homework Assignments: 30 Points total
Grading on Homework
I will assign one homework assignment per week. Homework assignments must be turned in during the class period on the day that the assignment is due. Consequently, late homework papers will not be accepted (except for excused illness). If you can't make it to class, have a friend turn in your assignment for you. You should turn in assignments even if they are incomplete. Your work will be evaluated primarily on the method of solution and the ability to apply concepts. This has one important consequence:
Clear, careful writing is an important part of both the weekly assignments and the exams. Please be neat!
Course Policies:
  1. No make-up exams will be given.
  2. Early exams may be given to students with direct conflicts due to another required University activity. Arrangements must be made in advance.
  3. Students are responsible for all announcements and any supplements given within any lecture.
  4. Cheating will be punished to the fullest possible extent.
Old Assignments and Handouts
I will hand out graded assignments in class. Unclaimed homework, as well as some copies of old handouts, can be obtained from the instructor.
