STAT 200H: Elementary Statistics

STAT 200H is an honors course that introduces students to the fundamentals of statistics. Thhe topics covered include: elementary probability, probability distributions, binomial and normal distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, linear regression, correlation, the analysis of variance, and inference for categorical data.

I shall cover material that goes sometimes beyond the level covered in the textbook. I shall also assign reading material to supplement the textbook. This is a four-credit course and we shall cover a lot of material during the semester.

Throughout the course, we will read The Centre Daily Times, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal regularly for articles related to topics covered in the course. We will work through the statistical information in such articles so as to relate them to the subject of the course and to our everyday slives and experiences.
